Got an idea to share but don’t know how to tell your boss? Read these tips.
Have you ever encountered an unsettling occurrence whereby you want to disagree with your boss’ approach for a particular campaign or decision? But in executive point of view, we would often think twice or rather not voice our opinions in fear that we might create conflict and be seen difficult to the person who hired us?
In fact, some of the youngsters’ idea these days would make the cut and change bosses’ perspective. Given that the idea comes with a valid explanation on the value that it brings and the willingness of your boss to listen. So, let’s say you would like to give your suggestions on a different approach on a certain tasks. How can you bring it up to your boss without having to feel like you’re overstepping boundaries?
Get the timing right.
Timing is the core factor to voice your ideas to your boss. Get the timing wrong, you can bid farewell to whatever you’re trying to say. Try to get their attention to your opinions when they are not handling anything stressful or urgent. This way you are able to have their full focus on what you are trying to tell them.
Understand the Why’s in your boss’ decisions beforehand.
Every bosses have their logic behind every decision they make. If you have been working under your boss for quite some time, more or less you are practically able to think and act like them. Therefore, before you voice out your opinions, first you brainstorm why does your boss choose to do this, is this the only option, what is your boss trying to achieve with this approach and so on. If you still think it is not the best approach, then you can voice out your ideas.
Help them look good.
As much as you want to shine in a company, your bosses too are the same. Just because you have a better approach, doesn’t mean you are granted the power to make your bosses look bad infront of others. As the saying goes “In a world you can be anything, be kind”, it will grant you a higher chance of success in the future with your vibrant ideas as well. So, help one another, and you’ll get the result that you are looking for.
