Industry 4.0: Transforming Your Factory into Smart Factory

As we are getting more and more connected via devices such as phones and tablets, it has become inevitable that even everyday objects around us are also getting connected, paving the way for Internet of Things (IoT). It is expected about 50 billion “things” will be connected to the Internet by the year 2020. IoT is currently revolutionizing various sectors such as Smart City, Smart Transportation, Smart Agriculture, etc. One sector that would strongly benefit is the industrial sector, i.e. Smart Factory.

Industry 4.0 (I4.0) is the fourth wave of industrial revolution. I4.0 is an amalgamation of various technology and concepts that endeavors to identify pitfalls and issues with machine and improve overall production efficiency. Industry 4.0 introduces what has been called the “smart factory” in which cyber-physical systems monitor the physical processes of the factory and make decentralized decisions. The physical systems become Internet of Things, communicating and cooperating both with each other and with humans in real.
