WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The growth of Internet of Things (IoT), especially sensors and smart devices, generates massive amounts of data (or “big data”), which needs to be stored, processed and analyzed. Cloud computing platforms and computer-assisted statistical software environments are fundamental technologies for big data storage and analysis.


This module will introduce big data technology platforms and how these can be applied to IoT data. This course will focus on big data storage technologies, namely MongoDB and Cassandra. In addition, this module will prepare the participants to adapt to the challenges of big data and focuses on harvesting the value of data through data analytics using the popular statistical software, R. The participants will learn how to import and manage data in R as well as learn how to perform descriptive statistical and exploratory data analyses, such as principal component analysis, hierarchical clustering and machine learning.

PREREQUISITES

Participants are recommended to understand databases and programming background.

METHODOLOGY

This program will be conducted with interactive lectures, PowerPoint presentation, discussion and practical exercise.
