As network operators continue to accelerate the race to complete digital transformation, NFV has become an invaluable asset to cross the finish line for adaptive network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NFV decouples network functions, like firewall or encryption, from dedicated hardware appliances, and instantiates them as software-based Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). This virtualizes network infrastructure and it can be operated and managed by software. VNF can also be connected with other VNF in a \u2018service chain\u2019 to create highly customized services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NFV has its own advantages that makes it worth the trouble for implementation. The advantages are not strictly technical only as they provide business competitiveness value as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Less vendor lock-in: Organizations are freed from proprietary, fixed-function boxes which reduces consumption of time and cost<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resource efficiency: Multiple VNFs can be operated by a single server alone, therefore it eliminates the need and higher cost for additional VNFs. As VNF can be operated by a software, it reduces the need for physical labour to update it manually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flexibility: Businesses can rely upon agility of VNF to adapt to changing needs. Network infrastructure can be altered to shorten time to market for organization\u2019s products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While VNF introduces some innovative solutions to barriers that plagued network operators, it also has its own challenges.
