It is often utilized and incorporated with the Scrum method to enhance the overall process and improve how a Scrum Team works. However, for Kanban itself, there are six core practices used as a guideline to achieve better agility in delivering services as well as creating a set of positive behaviors in businesses. The six core practices are:

Workflow visualization
A team must run a workflow visualization to allow an overview of the queues in the system and possible points of improvements. Kanban board is one of the example of drafting out the workflow. However, utilizing other methods to do so can also provide the similar view on how the work is progressing and what are the improvements that need to be done.

Set limit on work in progress
As Kanban board makes workflow obvious, there might be possibilities where multiple work are still stuck or still in progress. With this, setting a limit to the available work in progress will ensure that the work can be delivered on time. This will also encourage team members to help one another to solve the problems.

Manage flow
The workflow in the Kanban system is aimed to maximize delivery value, minimize time-to-market and be predictable as possible. With this, it is necessary to have a full control of the flow with transparency, inspection and adaptation. Any bottlenecks must be managed properly to improve the predictability and performance of the system.

Develop direct and clear policies
It is common to have assumptions and disagreements in the strategies and opinions. However, to make things clear across the board, policies should be made to ensure all decisions, criteria, processes, and data are transparent to everyone in the team. This being said, the policies must be made direct, clear, modify-able, defined and visible by those who provide the service. It will help develop a high-performance organization.

Exchanging feedbacks
In Kanban, feedbacks are not just implemented within the team, but other teams as well. To bring change to the organization with Kanban, all services are recommended to exchange feedbacks and be connected between teams. This allow teams to connect between different levels of personnel who make different decisions in the organizations. Promoting a culture of information exchange for continuous improvements in every team.Improvements
With the five core practices in place, you would’ve notice that Kanban only requires users to visualize the workflow and create clear and direct policies. There are no new roles or any required meetings to get things done with the Kanban method. This has made Kanban stand out from other methodologies as it has lesser resistance from stakeholders.

Kanban is a scheduling system for lean manufacturing and just-in-time manufacturing.
